When looking to introduce a bit of whimsy into décor, rugs aren’t necessarily the first place you’d look. But I was reminded of how much fun you can have with your floor when I saw the latest from FLOR, this “Find a Face” rug from photographer François Robert.

I’ve always loved Robert’s book of these witty images, “Faces” (Chronicle Books). Though it’s out of print, you can still get the kids’ version, “Find a Face”. What a great idea to translate it into carpet tiles! (I’m less excited about the Disney Princess ones FLOR is offering; please, please don’t tell my daughter!)
Other fun floor options? Nani Marquina, the Spanish designer who creates amazingly playful, inventive and irresistibly tactile rugs. It’s hard to pick a favorite: some include “Roses,” “Bicicleta” and “Topissimo.” They’re available at select retailers and also through Design Within Reach. And I’ve long been a fan of Emma Gardner’s rugs. Perhaps best known for elegant and subdued designs she’s got some exuberant offerings including “Racing Stripes” and “Joy.”
