Feeling Bookish

Like most voracious readers, I acquire far more books than I can ever read. But that’s OK. Just looking at them can provide satisfaction, sort of like an unwrapped present. The challenge in our house is what to do with all those tales of intrigue and woe, cuisine and architecture. There are books everywhere, in every room, and don’t get me started on the ones still boxed up in the garage.

There are infinite book-shelving options, of course, but none that have appealed to me as much as those by Atlas Industries. (www.atlasindustries.com). Started by the delightful furniture-designing pair of Joseph Fratesi and Thomas Wright, Atlas offers a completely customizable modular system that allows you to create your perfect scenario, whether it’s just shelves or a complete workspace complete with desk, pencil drawers, cabinet, decks, storage drawers, and bookshelves. Their AS Builder online tool (http://atlaseast.com/builder/) guides the process. Clean lines, elegant materials, superior craftsmanship—available in oak, maple, or walnut with steel components. I can’t think of an environment where the Atlas system wouldn’t work.
