I’m forever dreaming about what our kitchen could look like the day we finally get around to renovating it so I’m always on the lookout for great cabinet systems. I was excited to learn that the great folks at Henrybuilt in Seattle have launched an even more affordable version of their terrific modular cabinets, the Viola Park kitchen system [http://violapark.com]. Average price of a kitchen (not including appliances, backsplash or countertops): $15,000.

The Viola Park line uses sustainable materials including FSC plywood, strand bamboo, and Paperstone. Its modularity allows for endless, custom configurations. I love how one of the Henrybuilt team members described it, "It's like a modern version of the classic 240 Volvo models: smart, versatile, practical, dependable, and in the right color combination with the right driver - unique and expressive."

I’m also a fan of Merit Kitchens, which offers over 20,000 combinations of woods, laminates, foils, and hand-rubbed antique glazing. Below is their “Ice House” line in Cherry Truffle.

I’m drawn to open cabinets like these from Merit’s Athena line. Perhaps all that glass would insure greater organization than currently exists in our kitchen!

Until then, I definitely need a better spice rack (this one’s by Rösle):
