Eight Storage Tips for Your Living Room
Monday, February 1, 2010

Cozy is one thing. Cluttered is another. And when you run out of room to store items that naturally belong in your living space (throws, books, collectibles, photo albums, toys, etc) you run the risk of having your "stuff" overtake your life!

Here's how to make your living areas even more beautiful by making use of smart storage.

#1: Use a lift-top table, ottoman, bench, trunk or window seat for storage.

#2: Choose a two-tiered coffee table or side table.

#3: Slide baskets under the bottom bookcase shelf.

#4: Divide a large room with a freestanding etagere.

#5: Build or assemble a floor-to-ceiling wall system with closed cabinets and open shelves.

#6: To hide a radiator, build a long, low case of shelves to either side of it that incorporates a radiator cover into the design. Use the top for collectibles.

#7: Is there space under the stairwell? Create a closet or place a pretty chest with drawers there. Or go for a home office!

#8: Where ceilings are high, flank both sides and the top of a door with bookshelves.
