It’s March, and even the slightest hints of sunshine and warmth have us thinking about springtime, chirping birds and flung-open windows. It might be slightly premature (in most parts) to start working on a tan, but it’s not premature to start thinking of our garden. So long as that garden is indoors.
An indoor herb garden can be planted anytime, really, so long as the conditions are right. But one good reason to plant one now is because soon, when you’re sure that your neck of the woods is done frosting over, you can move some of your indoor seedlings to the outdoor garden. Think of it as getting a head start.
Some tips for your indoor garden: Choose a spot that gets at least four hours of direct sunlight a day. Plant herbs like basil, mint, dill and chives – all do very well inside. Use containers that are at least 8 inches deep and 6 inches across for each plant. Don’t over-water – soaking well twice a week should do the trick.
