Idol-Inspired: Home Karaoke
Wednesday, February 10, 2010

With American Idol kicking into high gear this week, many of us -- we’re guessing more of us than are willing to admit it -- hopped onto the couch, turned on Fox, and happily pre-selected our favorite pop star wannabes. All the while singing along during the show and arranging our own Idol-worthy ballads in the shower the next morning.

You didn't? Really? Okay... sure... from this point forward let’s refer to the American Idol fans in your house as “the kids.” The kids just love the show. They love Simon Cowell, Kara Dioguardi, Randy Jackson and Ellen Degeneres and are giddy with excitement when out-of-tune singers get cut and true talent makes it to the next round.

The kids. Got it.

On Tuesday night, after Idol ended, the kids had a great idea: “let’s get a home karaoke machine! It can be American Idol at our house 24 hours a day!” To which you scratched your head, thinking "hmm, why not?" We know you won’t sing, of course, but you might watch, right?

Here’s our tip of the day: turn your living room or media room into an American Idol audition stage. The kids can be the contestants and you can be a judge. And then maybe, after everyone’s in bed, you can call up your favorite 80’s pop song and still if you’ve still go it.

There are lots of Home Karaoke varieties to choose from. And there are a lot of configurations for your media room to ensure your performance is optimally viewed. Are you the next American Idol? Maybe not, but you and the kids sure will have fun.
