Big things, like new decks and flat screen TVs and shiny hardwood floors, are what most of us dream of when it comes to home improvement. But sometimes the same joy and satisfaction comes in more unexpected places: the color coordination of our closets, the pillows on the couch, or in the nooks of our kitchens.
Exhibit A: It’s time to toss those old salt and pepper shakers. You know the ones. They are cracked, and a little grimy, and were purchased on a whim when you were in your “country floral” phase.
For a quick fix in home rejuvenation, try replacing them with a set of salt and pepper dishes. That’s right, no shaking required, just a pinch here and there as needed.
Aren’t they modern? More sophisticated? Won’t they help your food tastes just a little bit better? It might not be rational, be we think “yes.”

Tip: While you’re at it, ditch the Morton’s table salt for chunky Sea Salt crystals, or the cheaper and widely available Kosher Salt. Some say these are better for your health, to boot.
