Interior Design that's Going to the Dogs

I have never owned a dog; however, I am utterly fascinated by the wonderful furniture and accessories one can purchase for them from catalogs and online. “Going to the dogs” is the phrase that comes to mind when I see how luxurious a “dog’s life” has become. The phrase means going to rack and ruin, or becoming worthless, but maybe in our lean economic times, the comfort and love our animals give us is being rewarded with our own vision for their good life. Here are some of the latest designs made just for our beloved four-legged friends.

Lazy Bonezz (lazybonezz.com) aims to create sleek furniture for passionate pet owners and their pampered pets. My favorite bed (main image) is called the Metropolitan. It's offered in two finishes, with two sets of washable linens included, and sleeps two. This bed is fun, innovative and chicly designed.

The Double Feeding Dish is a perfect match for the Metropolitan bed. This great gift for any pet owner comes in two finishes with two dishwasher safe, stainless steel bowls.

The Frontgate catalog offers unique gifts, indoor and outdoor furnishings, and accessories for your pet. The website, frontgate.com, has a number of web-only specials and features a host of products. Your dog can lounge on the terrace on the Memory Foam Contour Pet Lounger. This luxurious bed is available in five colors, has a washable cover and is large enough for a nice brood of puppies.

Frontgate also has a number of personalized items with free monogramming, ranging from pillows to food bowls to comfortable mats. The Dog Treat Jars make a wonderful gift, are dishwasher safe and keep treats dry and fresh. The Dog Throver looks like a blanket, but works as a durable throw to protect surfaces from spills and stains. It features designs by William Wegman.

Dr. Race Foster and Dr. Marty Smith are doctors of veterinary medicine who have coauthored a number of books on pet care. Their website, DrsFosterSmith.com, is an online pet pharmacy and sells almost every type of pet supply. Here are two clever toys, the Squeak N' Grunter and the Soft Flex Football to enjoy with your dog just in time for football season!
