Objects of Desire: Eco Dinnerware
Posted by Allison Arieff

The last few years have seen a tremendous influx of "eco" dinnerware but none comes close to the offerings of Japan's Wasara.

At first glance, these plates and vessels appear to be the work of artisan ceramicists but they are actually created from a magic potion of materials: sugarcane fiber, bamboo, and reed pulp. No trees involved, only renewables. How can these be possibly be made from paper?!

What's perhaps equally amazing is that these sculptural objects are reasonably priced. The bowl (above) is $10 for a pack of 6; the plate below, $8 for 12.

The craftsmanship extends to the elegant packaging, so lovely in fact that these could even work as a hostess gift. (Thanks to Remodelista for the link).

Did I mention they're also biodegradable and compostable? Wasara products are now available at Branch (www.branchhome.com).
