Soak it Up: Bathroom TVs
Tuesday, February 2, 2010

It’s one of those things -- like 500 thread count sheets, or Tivo -- that, before you have it, seems like more than you really need. Until that day where you cave in, just to see what all the fuss is about, and realize that you’ve been depriving yourself of a great -- even necessary -- luxury in life.

"It" in this case is a television in the bathroom. Preferably a wall-mounted, plasma variety that's connected to 512 cable channels.

Sure, you could argue that you really don’t need Matt, Ann, Meredith and Al following you into yet another room in the morning, or that the bathing experience is one to be savored as an opportunity to clear the clutter from your busy mind. You could also argue that watching Top Chef while soaking in a bubble bath with a glass of Merlot within arm’s reach is the pinnacle of self-preserving Nirvana. So there.

The latter was our recent experience, in the home of a friend with a fully connected master bath, and we’re here to tell you that it is not a bad thing. Not bad at all. A single bubble bath got us thinking that this was our home's next must-have feature, and that someday, not too far in the future, we, too, would own waterproof electronics.

Turns out there are elaborate built-in ways to do this (like, when planning a bathroom remodel), and ways that provide much more instant gratification (small plasma screens that can be easily wall-attached). Behold the images below, and tell us this wouldn’t be nice. Go ahead. Try.
