Interiors are being pared down lately—furnishings are simpler, less patterned and in many cases more architectural. That’s why wall coverings are back! New designs are being produced by using innovative techniques and materials. Here are some of my favorite patterns.
Graham & Brown (grahambrown.com) prides itself in manufacturing wall coverings that are geared to contemporary thinking, high fashion and the smart shopper who recognizes good design at accessible prices.

Phillip Jeffries Ltd. (phillipjeffries.com) is known for hand-crafted wall coverings. Originally known for grasscloths, the company now imports and stocks more than 900 natural wall coverings including Japanese paper weaves, gold leaf, hemps, silks, linens, bamboo and raffia, as well as unique specialties. I’ve used the hemps and grasscloths, and they add luminous texture to walls that cannot be achieved with paint alone.

Farrow & Ball (farrow-ball.com) makes beautiful hand-crafted wallpapers and paint to match. The company is known for a depth of color in its pure paint finishes, which are of the highest quality. Its range of wall coverings has expanded to include glowing damask patterns with subtle gold and silver hues and stripes of every color and scale.
