Your Very Own Spa-Style Bathroom
Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Who wouldn’t like to get that clean, fresh and soothing vibe -- the vibe we pay an arm and a leg for at day spas -- in one's very own family bathroom? While the task might seem insurmountable (you think to yourself as you eye the crumpled dirty socks on the floor) this is actually an achievable goal. Really. We've boiled attainability down to these simple rules:

1. Smart storage. Stuff the unattractive products away and display the pretty ones like fluffy towels and perfume bottles.
2. Color coordination. Mis-matched towels and accessories say “youth hostel” more than “spa.” Invest in matching sets and show them off. Bright whites and earth tones feel especially fresh and soothing, though dark, rich colors are very luxurious.
3. Add a chair. If you’ve got the room, placing a pretty chair in your bathroom gives instant spa-appeal.
4. Cleanliness. Make it part of your daily routine to wipe down the counters and return hair products to their homes (in the cabinets!). And always throw those crumpled socks in the hamper.

Here are four spa-style bathrooms we especially love:
